🚲 Volunteer with MoCo EPIC Bike Adventure Oct. 12-13th! 🚲
We are "ride-famous" for our homemade cookies, a sweet treat for the bikers at Aid Station #7 towards the end of the 40- and 70-mile trails - but WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please sign up to bake (or buy) cookies, fruit, or even donate your time at the aid station.

Showcasing over 70 miles across 11 different parks in Montgomery County, the possibilities for an epic bike adventure are endless with the MoCo Epic. The MoCo Epic is an organized RIDE - not race - which allows you to enjoy your adventure at your own pace and experience the renowned "epic" aid stations including our own Aid Station #7 - sponsored by GPARC and our friends at the Muddy Branch Alliance!

🌿Shoutout to our valiant weed warriors! They took on this GIANT oriental bittersweet last weekend. This aggressive vine can choke out fully grown trees and is a major threat to our forests, because trees that did not evolve alongside this vine can't defend themselves from it! Weed Warriors coming right up on Saturday September 7th from 10am to 12pm!

We are now also combining our Weed Warrior work with trash pickup--a great way to make a big difference in our park. You can work on whatever interests you most!

When: THIS SATURDAY 9/7/2024 from 10am-12pm

Where: Malcolm King Park at the West Side Dr. Entrance.

Want SSL Hours? No Problem! Teenagers must wear the appropriate clothing, bring water and a snack, and be accompanied by an adult.

As we remove litter from the park, we will continue to work on pulling out plants like multiflora rose, porcelain berry, and oriental bittersweet, that crowd out the beautiful native plants and the wildlife they support. It's also a great opportunity to learn some plant ID skills and hear more about the native plants found there.

Join us this Sunday 8/11 for a Weed Warriors and TRASH PICKUP event at Malcom King Park! Let's get litter out of our park and support the plants and wildlife that live there.

To help, you must be wearing long pants, sturdy shoes and be prepared that the plants can be thorny. Litter removal gear will be provided. See you there!

Check out these great opportunities from Sustainable Maryland for your HOA and neighborhood!

The Sustainable Maryland program at UMD-College Park is applying for a 6th consecutive round of funding from the Chesapeake Bay Trust for their special HOA Green Team/Sustainability Action Plan program with the City of Gaithersburg. Over the last 5 years they have helped form 23 HOA Green Teams within the City, and also completed customized Sustainability Action Plans for them. If your Gaithersburg HOA is interested in being one of the 3 HOAs they work with in 2025, please contact Mike Hunninghake at [email protected] by August 12. All they need is a letter of support from your HOA for their grant proposal (due August 22) to the Chesapeake Bay Trust.

Mike says: "There is really no downside to working with us. A few members of your Board/residents participate in 3 one hour zoom meetings over the course of 2025, plus a site visit/tour of the HOA with me and my staff. At the end of the year you receive a customized Action Plan for your community!"

Interested in Pollinator Garden Design? Sustainable Maryland is also recruiting 3 HOA alumni of this program to receive technical assistance with the design of a pollinator garden on the HOA common property. They will hire a landscape designer to work with your Green Team/Landscape Committee, and the end result will be a fundable project that you can apply to Chesapeake Bay Trust for funding of the installation. If your HOA is interested, please let Mike know ASAP with commitment to participate by August 12th.
