Fall Landscaping Classes at Montgomery College Starting September 5th

If you are wishing to expand your plant knowledge, Montgomery College, Germantown Campus offers a variety of horticulture courses which are beneficial to those in the Green Industry, master gardeners or plant lovers.   Courses are offered at the Germantown Campus and at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland.

Plant Materials I (LN 108) identifies and explains the characteristics of native and non-native trees, shrubs, vines and groundcovers appropriate for central Maryland. The class is offered in two sections. The Wednesday evening section, begins September 5 and it meets at the Germantown campus from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  The Monday afternoon section meets at Brookside Gardens from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  This class starts September 10.  These courses offer several optional field trips including trips to Dumbarton Oaks, the National Cathedral, and The Gardens of Smithsonian Institute.

Another course, Landscape Graphics (LN 120) which begins on September 6, teaches the basic principles and skills used in landscape design.  Additional courses offered by the Landscape Technology Program include: Introduction to Landscape Technology, Turfgrass Management, Pesticide Use & Safety, Pest Management (- taught by Stanton Gill) and Introduction to Plant Sciences (New Course). Students can take any of these classes for credit or audit. You also have the option of registering for these classes through our ConEd program.

In-county tuition rates are available for Business/Industry employees. Businesses or other organizations that do business in the state of Maryland may be eligible to enter into an agreement with the College that affords their employees or members tuition & fees at the in-county residence rate, regardless of actual domicile. Registration for Senior Tuition Waiver begins August 29th for Maryland residents who are 60 years of age or older at the time of registration. Seniors are still responsible for payment of required fees which is $109.20 for a three credit class.
